Two wins were enough to give Multiplex top spot for the month, led by its appointment to deliver the One Nine Elms mega-project for Chinese client Wanda One.

Multiplex became the third firm to be named main contractor for the project, after Interserve and Balfour Beatty failed to agree terms with the client.

Two towers featuring 437 homes alongside 3,500 sq ft of retail space and public realm will be included in the 1.14m sq ft scheme, for which Glenigan values the construction cost at £700m.

Lendlease was second in January having also recorded two major deals, chief among which was its selection to deliver Google’s King’s Cross HQ.

The contractor saw off competition from Mace, Multiplex and Sir Robert McAlpine to win the contract, valued by Glenigan at £350m.

The month’s top 10 featured several high-volume totals, with Kier recording 20 contracts, Wates 25 and Morgan Sindall 37.

Morgan Sindall’s total marked the highest number of deals for one contractor in a single month since June 2016, when the same firm won 43.

VolkerWessels, Laing O’Rourke and Thales were ranked seventh, eighth and ninth respectively, with all three sharing the £350m Manchester Metrolink expansion contract finalised in January having been revealed by CN in December.
