The firm secured the contract to redevelop Llanfrechfa Grange Hospital outside Cwmbran, Wales, to help take its haul for March to £512m across five deals, according to construction intelligence provider Glenigan.

Kier was a distant second for the month on £353.8m but recorded a considerably higher-volume period, bagging 33 contracts in total.

Bowmer & Kirkland claimed third in March thanks primarily to a pair of major deals: the £100m regeneration of Crewe town centre for Cheshire East Borough Council and a £100m office job in Manchester for Barings Real Estate.

The firm’s 14-contract £327.6m haul was enough to secure B&K’s first podium finish in the monthly league for more than five years.

Other major deals finalised in March included Mace winning a £140m residential contract in London’s Mayfair, helping it to sixth place for the period, while Vinci sealed a £90m student accommodation scheme for the University of Hull and Bam will deliver an £80m mixed-use development for Sheffield City Council.

Bam, Galliford Try and Balfour Beatty maintained their positions, while Willmott Dixon climbed a place to sit seventh and Lendlease was up two into eighth, as Multiplex dropped to ninth.

Wates was among the biggest fallers for the year to March, however, ceding five places to lie 14th.
