BBC redevelopment puts Mace top in September as Kier heads Balfour Beatty in annual league

The £400m contract to redevelop BBC Television Centre in west London has sent Mace to the top of the contractor league table for September.

Royal Bam Group took second for the month with nine deals worth £173.1m, while Carillion was third after securing four contracts at £147m, according to construction intelligence unit Glenigan.

Among the stand-out deals for September was Carillion’s confirmation on the £75m scheme to expand Liverpool FC’s main stand at Anfield, while Balfour Beatty won a £70m contract for the final Crossrail station package at Woolwich.

Kier and ISG recorded the strongest months in terms of volume, each with 18 deals, just ahead of Interserve on 16.

In the annual table covering the 12 months to September the big mover was Mace, which climbed three places to fourth.

Kier held onto top spot ahead of Balfour Beatty, but its lead at the summit declined over the period.
