Briggs & Forrester Engineering Services clinched the MEP Specialist prize thanks to its safety-focused culture, commitment to innovation and strong supply chain relationships.
Part of the wider Briggs & Forrester Group, the company drives safety through its ‘Safe: Our Site, Our Safety, Our Lives’ strategy, which clearly filters down through the business from the very highest level.
This was just one factor that impressed the judging panel in what was a tightly contested category.
Briggs & Forrester ES has expanded over the past 12 months, moving into three new regions in the South-east, South-west & Wales, and the North-west. The business now has 10 offices following the opening of one in Cardiff in 2017, with headcount rising to 322 employees.
Within this workforce, the company has 28 trainees and invested £800,000 in training initiatives over the past year.

It has worked on a number of exemplar schemes, including BioCity Laboratories in Nottingham for the city council, the National College for High Speed Rail in Doncaster, the Oastler Building at the University of Huddersfield, and the Curzon Building at Birmingham City University.
The firm’s relations with its supply chain were lauded by the judges, with the company proactively sharing the benefits of its approach with those it works with.
The company’s commitment to the future also drew praise, with Briggs & Forrester ES becoming fully compliant with BIM Level 2 in 2017, and completing work on £32m-worth of Level 2 projects in the past year – a figure set to hit £50m in 2018.
Crucially, Briggs & Forrester ES has excelled in health & safety, completing 3.6m worker-hours with an accident frequency rate of 0.08 per cent. This marked a 24 per cent reduction in accidents over the past year.
