ADM Regeneration – Remediation of Turner & Newall asbestos cement products manufacturing facility, Widnes
ADM carried out the decommissioning, decontamination, demolition and remediation of phase 2b of the former Turner & Newall asbestos cement products manufacturing facility in Widnes, one of the largest manufacturing plants of its kind in Europe.
This project required exceptional technical and management expertise to design a safe and viable demolition and remediation strategy, while also providing the utmost assurances to the local community, with many understandably concerned about redeveloping this contaminated site. ADM’s pioneering methodology made the project viable and enabled the construction of a high-quality residential development with recreational parks.
Specialists 2017 Project over 2m Erith Contractors
Erith Contractors – 42 Shoe Lane, London
Erith was tasked with the strip-out, asbestos removal and structural demolition of Plumtree Court and The Fleet Building, down to the top of the basement slab level – located at 42 Shoe Lane, Farringdon Street, London.
This major project in the centre of London required very careful management by Erith’s team to ensure minimal disruption to local businesses and members of the public. The job represented the largest Erith had yet undertaken, at a value of £37m, and was one of the biggest schemes in central London at its height.
Specialists 2017 Project over 2m Imtech University of Nottingham
Imtech – University of Nottingham Centre for Sustainable Chemistry Building
The Centre for Sustainable Chemistry Building is a carbon-neutral chemistry laboratory (the first to be built in the UK) located on the University of Nottingham’s Jubilee Campus.
M&E and ventilation systems were crucial to ensuring the laboratory achieved this carbon-neutral status, with equipment carefully selected and systems meticulously designed with this goal in mind.
Work suffered a setback after a major fire in September 2014 that destroyed 75 per cent of the work completed to that point – and Imtech played a major part in helping the project get back up and running quickly.

Specialists 2017 Project over 2m McNicholas
McNicholas Construction Services – Bank station capacity upgrade project, London
This project served as a pilot for a new way of working for major capital investments by Transport for London, under its Innovative Contractor Engagement scheme.
In 2015, TfL and Dragados SA appointed McNicholas to design and deliver the utility works, single-sourcing the 3D design and BIM contributions needed for their overall plan for the station with the physical delivery of utilities and the Arthur Street access shaft.
The project was delivered to budget and helped to achieve a six-month programme saving on the scheme, as well as a £3m utility diversion saving compared to traditional approaches for works of this nature.
Specialists 2017 Project over 2m Metek
Metek UK – Oval Quarter at Myatt’s Fields, Lambeth
This 60,000 sq m housing project was the largest light steel frame scheme built in the UK to date, with Metek UK employed to carry out the LSF subcontract.
The former Myatt’s Fields North Estate was completely re-modelled to create the ‘Oval Quarter’, a mixture of private and affordable housing.
Metek’s LSF system was chosen because of its speed of delivery and its fire-resistant properties, especially during construction. The team built a floor every 1.5 weeks, with one of the terraces of low-rise houses taking just seven days to build.
Specialists 2017 Project over 2m NG Bailey Wrightington Hospital 8827 1 1
NG Bailey – Wrightington Hospital, Wigan
NG Bailey delivered the full installation and commissioning of mechanical, electrical and public health services at Wrightington Hospital, as well as overseeing the design of the M&E works, and the installation of data and telephone systems and cabling.
The firm recommended that the client change the design from four separate operating theatres to one ‘barn-style’ operating theatre, saving costs per operation and increasing patient throughput rates – but still had to provide separate clean air supplies to each operating bay within the theatre.
The project opened five weeks early before the ‘peak’ winter season.
Specialists 2017 Project over 2m Severfield Project of the Year 2016 2
Severfield – 4 Pancras Square, London
Severfield has delivered, or is appointed to deliver, nine projects across the King’s Cross regeneration scheme – one of which was 4 Pancras Square, the final structure to be built around the public realm.
This is believed to be the first weathering steel exoskeleton frame building in the UK, providing a striking visual design statement linking to the site’s historic background as well as minimising building maintenance.
The project was delivered on time to an extremely tight lead-in and erection programme, and within budget.

The Deluxe Group – Dubai Parks & Resorts: Sony Pictures Motiongate, Dubai

Deluxe’s scope of works ranged from design development of the client’s concept through to final installation of the show-sets on site in Dubai.
Each show-set was manufactured in full at Deluxe’s Portadown workshop, before being dismantled for shipping to site for final assembly. It then had a full team of joiners and artisans on site to successfully complete the installation within the client’s narrow 12-week installation window.
