Cruden Group: C-Fit
Cruden Group introduced the C-Fit programme specifically aimed at its employees to raise awareness around health and wellbeing and provide opportunities to make better lifestyle choices.
The first activity organised under the programme was Movember, raising more than £4,000, before undertaking an occupational health drop-in service in January, offered to all employees. Each month saw other events and initiatives organised, successfully raising awareness among Cruden’s employees despite the relative size of the SME’s resources compared with industry heavyweights.

Cundall: Delivering Europe’s First ‘WELL’ Building
Cundall fitted out its new office space in London to the WELL Building Standard – a new system for measuring, certifying and monitoring building features that affect workplace health and wellbeing.
The standard looks at space planning, air quality and corporate and HR policies to ensure they actively promote the health and wellbeing of employees.
A cost-benefit analysis suggests conducting the fit-out to the WELL standard was not significantly more expensive than more conventional approaches, while the benefits will allow Cundall to recoup the investment within a very short timeframe.
Employee satisfaction has also markedly increased while monthly employee sickness absence fell by 50 per cent.
CITA 2017 Wellbeing Initiative Fluor
Fluor: Sports & Social Club
Fluor’s senior management provides funds for an employee sports and social committee to support activities and events to Fluor staff throughout the year.
Sports activities including football, badminton, squash, table tennis, netball and volleyball take place during lunchtime or after work and cater for all. The company has also partnered with a local gym to provide lunchtime classes in such as yoga, spinning and circuits.
On the social side, events have included quiz and bowling nights, a family day at Ascot racecourse and a company Christmas event. All of this helps to promote a positive workplace culture, leading to improved mental and psychological wellbeing, and higher levels of staff morale.

Jacobs: BeyondZero – Mental Health Matters
Jacobs’ ‘BeyondZero’ health, safety and wellbeing initiative is now in its 10th year. In the past 12 months, this has expanded to include a network dedicated to addressing and improving the mental health of UK staff, known as Mental Health Matters.
This has seen staff volunteer to be ‘Positive Mental Health Champions’, who are then provided with training and embedded in every office. To date, 180 champions have been trained, undertaking several tasks and helping to foster strong levels of staff engagement.
CITA 2017 Wellbeing Initiative McLaughlin Harvey
McLaughlin & Harvey: Healthy Working Lives Tour Bus
McLaughlin & Harvey’s Health Working Lives working group has developed a rolling three-year action plan to support the company’s vision of a healthy workforce and promote physical and mental wellbeing to its employees.
HWL’s tour bus travels around with staff picking up a number of health concerns among employees each year, taking a proactive approach to tackle the issues before they escalate.
The bus is also raising awareness of mental health to help managers understand and support people who may be suffering or at risk, with managers trained by a member of the NHS mental health prevention team.

MWH Treatment: Wellbeing Programme
MWH created a wellbeing charter at the start of 2016. Signed by all company directors, it splits the year into four areas: Be Healthy, Be Active, Be Inspired and Be Mindful. Each had a different focus and challenge, designed to shift employees’ attitudes to be more health-conscious.
The company then worked hard to get the message out to its 100-plus staff across the country, involving all offices in the initiative. The programme raised substantial sums of money for charity, too.
CITA 2017 Wellbeing Initiative RSK Group
In 2016/17, RSK Group’s wellbeing initiative saw its employees take part in a Diversity Day in July 2016, a Pedometer Challenge in October 2016, and a Stress Awareness Month in April 2017.
These were among a number of other initiatives that have covered all aspects of health and wellbeing, receiving huge amounts of positive feedback from staff. In particular, the Stress Awareness Month saw RSK’s human resources team follow up with other parts of the business to ensure that a clearly defined policy was put in place, with guidance for employees and line managers.
CITA 2017 Wellbeing Initiative Keystone Group
The Keystone Group: KeyFit
The Keystone Group introduced the KeyFit initiative in 2017, aimed at promoting and enhancing the wellbeing of employees across the group, both mentally and physically.
Each employee was offered a Fitbit Flex in exchange for a £5 donation to charity, with the concept voted for and endorsed by employees who were given the opportunity to shape it through a questionnaire.
The firm has also increased the number of health-related schemes open to employees in the past 12 months, which has helped to produce a healthier and more productive workforce.
