These eight firms represent the cream of the crop in construction consultancy, working at home and abroad on major projects.
BCS Construction Consultancy CN Awards 2016
Since it was established 12 years ago, BCS Design has sustained year-on-year growth and expanded to a team of 60 staff. The consultancy focuses on niche markets in rail, highway structures and temporary works, but only in the design and build sector.
The firm is focused on recruiting a nucleus of young staff to energise the business and provide a strong next generation, with more than 25 per cent of the workforce being graduate or student employees.
Cundall Construction Consultancy CN Awards 2016
Last year was a significant one for Cundall as it increased turnover and staff numbers both in the UK and internationally. It became the first consultancy in the world to be endorsed as a One Planet Living Company, as it proactively seeks to reduce its impact on the environment through staff training, office investment and procurement.
Standout projects included work on designing the canoe course for the Rio 2016 Olympics and a new visitor centre in Northumberland for visitors to Hadrian’s Wall.
IN2 Construction Consultancy CN Awards 2016
IN2 Engineering Design Partnership
IN2 experienced significant growth in staff numbers and volume of secured work in 2015, with turnover up by 40 per cent year on year.
A strong focus on BIM has led to its use on all relevant projects, while the firm also appointed a diversity champion within its HR department for the first time.
IN2 demonstrated project excellence on contracts including the refurbishment of the Royal Academy of Arts in Piccadilly, London, the refurbishment of Knock Basilica, and the construction of a new business school at Trinity College, Dublin.
Mace Birmingham New Street Construction Consultancy CN Awards 2016
Mace’s consultancy business has had another strong year, building on and benefiting from some of its longest-standing client relationships.
In North America, for example, the company has seen turnover increase by 50 per cent, working with world-renowned clients like GSK, Walgreens and Tiffany & Co.
Closer to home, its 10-year relationship with Sainsbury’s has been extended with a three-year exclusive framework, while it also completed the £65m British Airways Learning Academy Engineering Operations project at Heathrow Airport.
Pick Everard Construction Consultancy CN Awards 2016
Pick Everard recorded a 12 per cent increase in turnover in 2015 to £35m, the highest in its 150-year history, and launched its 2020 Vision – a strategy to achieve £50m turnover and employ more than 500 fee-earning staff in the next five years.
A significant structural change, with national directors responsible for each discipline, has led to more focused teams and a rise in profit, with the firm successfully securing and maintaining relationships with public sector clients.
This is shown by its unprecedented 14-month extension as the sole provider of project and cost management services under the Scape National Framework.
Rise Management Design Construction Consultancy CN Awards 2016
Rise Management Consulting
Since its establishment in 2011, Rise has grown dramatically from just four employees to 80 by the end of 2015.
In 2015, the consultant had two stand-out projects. The first saw it work closely with the Royal Opera House on its Open Up project, carrying out works around the performance schedule.
The second saw it take on the project management contract at Park Crescent West opposite Regent’s Park, where the firm oversaw the demolition and reconstruction of a Grade I-listed building, restoring it to its original splendour before it was bombed in the Second World War.
Scott Hughes Design Construction Consultancy CN Awards 2016
Scott Hughes Design
This Manchester and Leeds-based structural engineering, civil engineering and sustainability consultancy has continued to grow and build on its reputation in the North-west and Yorkshire.
A particular example saw it work on the National Taekwondo Centre in Manchester, providing GB Taekwondo with one of the most advanced dedicated facilities in the world.
Scott Hughes Design adopted BIM Level 2 for the design and was able to use the federated model to help improve the development’s green credentials, despite it not being specified by the client.
WYG Construction Consultancy CN Awards 2016
A strategic review in early 2015 led WYG Group to identify a substantial pipeline of acquisition opportunities.
The firm acquired transport consultancy FMW in June 2015 as well as planning and asset management consultancy North Associates in October.
These acquisitions enabled WYG to expand its offering, leading to a strong increase in its order book and setting it up for future growth.
