Fieldwork for Vibro

Vibro Projects is carrying out ground improvement work for a lorry park site at a Tesco Distribution Depot. The works, in Severnside near Bristol, are for contractor Churngold, to an Arup design.

The installation of 3,357 band drains totalling 28 linear kilometres will speed up the consolidation of underlying soils by draining pore water. A metal plate anchors the Colbond vertical drains into the ground and pore water is drained into an underlying sand layer. From there it flows into a granular fill ground surcharge, placed after the drain installation. The placement of each band drain takes less than a minute, allowing Vibro Projects’ Mark Henry and his team to install around 3 km in one shift per machine.
