Highways Agency CEO Graham Dalton outearned by colleagues

The Highways Agency’s director of information Denise Plumpton and network operations director Derek Turner were the agency’s biggest earners over the past year according to the latest accounts.

The pair both out earned chief executive Graham Dalton and finance director Stephen Dauncey with a salary of between £150,000 and £155,000 for the year to 31 March 2009.

But Mr Dalton’s £105,000 to £110,000 was earned over just nine months after he only came into the role at the end of June 2008.

And similarly Mr Dauncey’s spell as finance director only began in February 2009, but his £95,000 to £100,000 salary included amounts paid as finance director of the network operations directorate.

Former chief executive Archie Robertson was paid £100,000 as an ex-gratia payment at the end of his contract giving him a final salary for the year of £135,000 to £140,000.

Major projects director Nirmal Kotecha was the third highest earner with between £140,000 to £145,000.
