' Woeful' MoD blamed over armed forces equipment shortage

The Armed Forces face delays or cuts in the delivery of essential equipment due to the Ministry of Defence's 'woeful' performance in managing major procurement projects, MPs warned today.
The Commons Public Accounts Committee said that six years after they were introduced, the MoD was still failing to consistently apply its own 'broadly sensible' rules of 'smart acquisition'.

However the MoD said that there had been 'significant improvements' over the past two years and predicted that the next report by the National Audit Office on major defence projects - due later this year - would show further progress.
