A guide to the assessment and repair of structural timber has been published by the Timber Research and Development Association (TRADA) as an addition to its wood information service.The four page guide lists common defects and sets out the key elements to be considered in a survey and structural assessment of timber, whether the need is repair, strengthening for change of use or to arrest decay.Three basic types of repair option is described. They are classified under traditional, mechanically fastened or by the use of adhesives. The advantages and limitations of each method are summarised in the guide.
