Work will start in June or July on a brace of hospital projects worth almost £50 million together.The Welsh Health Common Services Authority is due to invite tenders this month for a new £41 million general hospital at Llantrisant.And project manager Turner and Townsend plans to send out documents in May for the £8.5 million second phase of the Whiston Hospital development in Prescot, Merseyside.For the Welsh project no more than six contractors are expected to be invited from a select list.The contenders will have 12 weeks to price the project, with work on site starting around June or July and lasting four years.Because of the quantity of mechanical and electrical work involved, building contractors are expected to team up with M and E specialists and send in joint-venture bids.Birse carried out the major infrastructure package for the project, which will be on the Ynys-y-Plwm site.The two-storey nucleus-designed hospital will accommodate 533 beds and cover around 39,000 sq m.Work on Whiston Hospital, which will include accident and emergency and critical care departments, is expected to start by the end of July.The three-storey phase two project will be linked by a two-storey corridor to the recently completed first phase, which was built by Amec.
