Tenders will be invited in April for a £40 million Corporation of London art gallery in the City.The gallery, near the Guildhall and Basinghall Street, has an internal floor area of 13,000 sq m and nine levels, three of which will be below ground.The contract, to be let on a fixed-price lump-sum basis, will be awarded in September for a start on site by April 1995 and completion by June 1996.The gallery will include offices grouped round an atrium, rooms for committee meetings and state occasions, and a museum.The works include service installations and fit-out to certain areas; but fitting out the offices and museum areas will be let as a separate contract at a later stage.An enabling works contract is under way, connected with the remains of a Roman amphitheatre which lies at the eastern end of the site.
