03Sep92 UK: HOUSING FEARS PUSH MATERIALS LOWER AS 10 PER CENT IS WIPED OFF SHARE VALUE.

Almost 10 per cent was wiped off building materials share values last week as the sector responded to fears of a further collapse in housing demand.Shares in the largest glass distributor, Heywood Williams, and Meyer, the largest builders' merchant, plunged 23 per cent as figures emerged showing builders' merchant sales had dipped by 6 per cent in July.Other casualties included Blue Circle and Redland, both down 10 per cent, Rugby down 9 per cent and Travis Perkins down 6 per cent.Fears ...
