03Sep92 UK: LINDE AG STARTS WORK ON £20M AIR GAS PRODUCTION PLANT FOR NATIONAL POWER AT EGGBOROUGH, NORTH YORKSHIRE.

Civils work has begun at a £20 million air gas production plant being developed at National Power's coal-fired station at Eggborough, North Yorkshire.Munich-based Linde A G landed the turnkey contract for the plant, which will produce nitrogen, oxygen and argon from atmospheric air. Clugston is on site with a civils subcontract.Air Gas Production, the joint venture behind the plant, has signed a pioneering agreement with National Power which may pave the way for similar projects in the future.Electricity will be supplied from a direct connection from the power station, avoiding the 'use of system' charges that would be incurred if electricity was supplied through a regional electricity company.The plant, being built on land leased from National Power, is due to be operational by the end of 1993.Air Gas Production is a joint venture of AGA Gas and Distillers M G, the UK subsidiaries of AGA of Sweden and Messer Griesheim of Germany.
