08Oct92 UK: LAING AND AMEC STILL WAITING FOR DECISION ON £13M PHASE TWO CONTRACT AT STAFFORD DISTRICT HOSPITAL.

Laing and Amec are still waiting to learn which will be the winner of the £13 million phase two contract at Stafford District Hospital. It is understood that only these two are left in the race, but Mid-Staffordshire District Health Authority is now making eleventh-hour reductions in the scope of the work. The two contractors expect to receive letters from the client asking what effect these alterations will make to their prices. But it is believed the changes will be relatively minor.Work on the Acute Rationalisation Pathology project was expected to start next month, but the alterations could delay that deadline. As it stands the job involves a 12,000 sq m steel-framed two-and three-storey nucleus template complex with brickwork cladding. It will accommodate wards, theatre suites and specialist laboratories.
