08Oct92 UK: SPEYHAWK TO INVITE TENDERS FOR £20M SHOPPING CENTRE IN WEYMOUTH, DORSET, EARLY 1993.

Tenders are likely to be invited early next year for an estimated £20 million shopping centre development in Weymouth, Dorset.Weymouth and Portland council had already given detailed consent for the town centre scheme, but developer Speyhawk then wanted to revise it and has now sent in a fresh application.The two-level project will feature around 15,000 sq m of retail space and about 5,500 sq m of warehouses, service areas and loading bays.The centre will be linked to a new multi-storey car park for 700vehicles and part of a listed building known as the Old Rectory will be refurbished into offices.A series of streets, squares and glazed canopies will feature in the project, which is designed by London architect Duffy Colman Anderson.
