Caterpillar has completed its F series small wheeled loader and integrated tool carrier ranges with the addition of the 928F and IT28F.Built at the company's Desford factory in Leicester, the models are powered by Cat's 3116T six cylinder engine. The 928F has a power rating of 121 PS while the slightly heavier tool carrier uses a 126 PS version.Caterpillar said this represented a 13 per cent rise in power over the 926 and the IT28B which the two new machines replace. However they are both 10-15 per cent heavier than their predecessors, with the loader weighing 12,612 kg and the IT 12,869 kg.Both models use an electronically-controlled powershift transmission with four forward and three reverse speeds. The 928F is 15 per cent faster in its forward ratios than the old 926 with a top speed of 40 kph.As with the rest of the F series machines the 928F and IT28F now have axles with enclosed, oil-immersed, disc brakes and inboard mounted final drives. Limited slip differentials are available for both, or just the rear axle, as an option. CONSTRUCTION NEWS
