Leading industry figures are falling out over moves by a small group of contractors to establish a slimmed-down employers' organisation.The dispute is between those who think a new body is essential for the industry to speak with one voice, and those who are backing an alternative plan by the Building Employers Confederation.A secret group of major contractors has looked at setting up the small organisation, codenamed Newco, which they would control but which would accept affiliation from other employer bodies.The majors are irritated at subscribing to BEC and the Federation of Civil Engineering Contractors, which they say duplicate work.
