John Laing has taken a 52 per cent shareholding in Yorkshire-based facility management consultancy FMS (Halifax) for an undisclosed sum.John Lockwood, chairman of the new outfit, to be called Laing Facility Management, said: 'We recognised that facility management requires skills different from those in construction.'He said the new firm, which will be based in Leeds, would help other parts of Laing add a facility managment option to tenders.'It makes sense to be able to provide a range of 'aftercare' services once a building is complete,' he said.Laing says the acquisition has been partly prompted by demand created by the Government's market-testing initiative. The firm offers a model to enable clients to compare the costs of contracting out or retaining an in-house service. CONSTRUCTION NEWS
