Marley Waterproofing has become the first British manufacturer to offer a single-ply PVC roofing system. The system, Uniply, comprises a range of high performance roofing membranes and accessories for fully bonded, mechanically fastened and ballasted roofs. The company also offers a support package which includes an initial site survey, CAD design facility and performance guarantees.Marley estimates that in the UK, single ply accounts for only about 10 per cent of the flat roof market. This compares with 30 per cent in Germany and more than 60 per cent in Switzerland.Adrian Thompson, marketing manager at Marley, says: 'A lack of any domestic manufacturer has delayed the acceptance of single-ply'.The two dominant products are Trocal, made by Huls Troisdorf in Germany, and Sarna, which is made by Sarnafil in Switzerland. Together they take 70 per cent of the UK market, says Marley. With traditional bitumen and mastic asphalt roofing in decline, modified bitumen has become the dominant flat roof material. But Mr Thompson says that as more contracts go to design-and-build contractors, their preference for fast, cost effective solutions will help the growth in single-ply to continue.
