19May94 UK: SIZEWELL B AHEAD OF SCHEDULE - JOHN LAING, NUCLEAR ELECTRIC.

Building work at Sizewell B will be completed next month on time and £100 million below budget.Contractor John Laing is putting the finishing touches to Britain's first pressurised water reactor which should be generating electricity this autumn - five months ahead of schedule if legal objections over discharges are settled.Client Nuclear Electric had privately set John Laing a much tighter timetable than that lodged with the Government.Spokesman Len Green said: 'They have slipped a couple of weeks, but that is to be expected on a project of this size.'Work at Sizewell has led to Nuclear Electric being invited to tender for a reactor in Taiwan.
