A roadheater tunnelling machine is lowered into an access shaft to start boring a 1,400 m tunnel under the main runways at London's Heathrow Airport. Miller Civil Engineering has a £6.5 million contract for the project, which is part of a £36 million baggage handling system. The 4.5 m dia tunnel will house a conveyor which will shift baggage between terminals one and four. The tunnel is due for completion early next year. CONSTRUCTION NEWS
