£200k Costain fine

COSTAIN has been fined £200,000 after a labourer was crushed to death building a sewer near Bridgend, south Wales.

Bristol Crown Court was told that Paul Davies was banksman on the job at Llynfi Valley when he was crushed between a 13-tonne excavator and a concrete wall in October 1999. Costain pleaded guilty to breaches of the Health and Safety at Work Act.
