20Jan94 GERMANY: BARGAIN BASEMENT - HBG FEARS RHINE FLOOD COMPENSATION.
Dutch contractor Hollandsche Beton Groep fears compensation claims up to £55 million after 300,000 cu m of the River Rhine poured into the basement of a new parliament building in Bonn, Germany. Construction minister Irmgard Schwaetzer said the building may be scrapped. It was to have housed MPs' offices, but while it was being built the government decided to move to Berlin and no alternative use had been agreed. CONSTRUCTION NEWS
