Developer Wilcon Homes has committed one of the ultimate sins. It has named streets on its new housing estate in Chepstow after people who worked on the project. The local mayor is apparently outraged at the effrontery - Preston Close, Garvey Close, Lewis Way, indeed! There's a suspicion Wilcon may even have a Murphy Way tucked away. His Worship is on record as thundering: 'This is a bitter blow for Chepstow. It's a disgrace.'Indeed, local worthies had put forward their own ideas, but a postal strike meant that the submissions missed the relevant Monmouth council committee meeting. So Wilcon's list, honouring its hard-working team, was accepted. But the mayor has vowed to pursue his cause and is determined to get the names changed to 'ones more relevant'.I can help him in his choice. As Chepstow is just up the road from the Second Severn Crossing, how about Laing Lane, Balfour Beatty Buildings, Costain Crescent and GTM-Entrepose Gardens? CONSTRUCTION NEWS
