Bridgestone now offers the first size of its M840 on/off road truck tyres. The range is a heavy duty, all position radial design with a tread compound claimed to be highly resistant to cutting and chipping. The tread is both wider and about 14 per cent deeper than its predecessor. The first size (11R22.5) is due to become available this month. The company also plans to make its 315/80R22.5 sized M840 tyre available soon.Bridgestone points out that recent changes in legislation permit maximum loads of 26 tonnes for six wheel, three axle rigid tippers and tankers. There is also a recent trend towards steer axle weights of 7 tonnes or more. This extra load might, in theory, be accommodated by a tyre size 12R22.5 or 295R22.5, with a carrying capacity of 7,100 kg. But in practice, says Bridgestone, operators are finding it better to opt for the 315/80R22.5 tyre's 400 kg of additional capacity. This allows for possible variations in load distribution.Bridgestone Tel: 021-552 5559. CONSTRUCTION NEWS
