21Oct93 UK: CITB TO TRAIN 999 CREWS IN SITE SAFETY.

The industry is to train the emergency services in the dangers of operating on sites.Police, paramedics and firefighters are increasingly risking their lives by having to go on potentially dangerous building sites.Now the Construction Industry Training Board has launched ALERT, an initiative to instruct them in the hazards of working on construction sites.Gavin Struthers, general manager of the CITB's Bircham Newton training centre, said: 'We have a remit to ensure safe practice on construction sites. Through ALERT we have extended this knowledge and expertise to cover the special needs of the emergency services.' CONSTRUCTION NEWS
