21Oct93 UK: PARKS' QUARRIES MAY ESCAPE RESTRICTIONS.

Existing quarries in national parks may escape tough restrictions introduced by the Government last year, a top environmentalist claims.Consultant Richard Bate said the Government was now proposing to allow extensions to the quarries if the quarrying firms enhanced the local landscape.Government policy would otherwise be to phase out most quarries in national parks.A ministerial decision on the proposal is expected by the end of the year.The object is to give quarry operators some flexibility ..
