24Feb94 UK: SPECIAL REPORT ON SCOTLAND - GA MANAGEMENT'S CONFERENCE CENTRE ON SCHEDULE.

GA Management's £38 million design, manage, and construct contract to build the Edinburgh International Conference Centre is on course for topping out on March 28.The focal point of the conference centre is the 30 m tall drum which will house exhibition and conference spaces.Stone and pre-cast concrete cladding is being lifted in blocks of up to 4 m square by two tower cranes and fixed to the building's steel frame.Cladding will be finished by early April and the whole structure will be weathertight by May.A £6 million mechanical and electrical fit out by Crown House started in January and will be complete by the handover date in the summer of 1995.Andrew Gold, EICC's construction manager, said: 'We have achieved rapid progress on this project in one year because of three things: planning, planning and planning.'
