A gas detector for use in the purging of gas from pipelines, in manned entry and other critical safety situations, can now be obtained from Gas Measurement Instruments. The Oxygas 2 gas detector has three measuring ranges - 0-100 per cent volume Methane (in air, or nitrogen, or a combination of both gases), 0-100 per cent LEL (Lower Explosive Limit) and 0-25 per cent oxygen. The instrument can operate in two modes: purge and measure. In purging applications, the purge mode allows the user to switch between the volume gas and oxygen ranges, ensuring that no erroneous LEL readings are allowed when oxygen levels could be low.In other applications, the measure mode allows the user to switch between LEL and volume gas ranges. In this mode, the instrument operates similarly to the Gascoseeker Mk2, which is used in the gas industry.Oxygas 2 is a British Approvals Service for Electrical Equipment in Flammable Atmospheres (BASEEFA) certified intrinsically safe gas detector.
