26May94 UK: COASTLINE CLEAN-UP - SLUDGE INCINERATOR PLANNING APPLICATION LODGED.

Lothian Region has lodged a planning application to build a £37 million sludge incinerator at Seafield to the north of Edinburgh.The proposal is part of a £250 million clean-up scheme being carried out by the council to bring the area's coastline and waterways up to the standards required by European pollution laws. The incinerator is due to be operational in 1998 when sludge dumping in the North Sea will be banned. CONSTRUCTION NEWS
