The Manchester Tobacco Company is kicking off the first phase of the Giant's Field development in Trafford Park with a £47 million manufacturing plant.Amec Developments and the Trafford Park Development Corporation are joint developers for the overall programme which will result in a 35,000 sq m facility being built on the 7 ha site.The Japan Tobacco subsidiary is relocating from its present site at Ludgate Hill in Manchester where it had limited opportunities for expansion according to MTC.The regional development agency, INWARD, in conjunction with Amec and the development corporation, helped to keep the tobacco firm in the area safeguarding 250 jobs in Manchester and allowing the company to employ up to 150 more.Work on site is expected to get under way this summer with the factory expected to become operational in the spring of 1996.
