Cheltenham-based house builder Westbury staged a strong recovery in the year to February with pre-tax profits of £8.3 million (1992: £2.2 million loss).The firm raised its house sales to 2,685 and lifted turnover 15 per cent to £152 million. Operating profits leaped to £9.6 million from £630,000 last time.The company said the current year has started well and its hopes of greater volumes, higher selling prices and increased operating margins were being borne out.Westbury, which is increasing its proportion of detached houses, spent £48 million on more than 3,000 plots last year to increase its land bank with planning consent to 6,600 plots.The dividend was raised to 3.5 p from 3.25p and gearing remained low at 5 per cent.
