£45 billion announced for schools

SCHOOLS minister Jim Knight has announced details of the next waves in the Government's £45 billion Building Schools for the Future programme.

Fifty local authorities are named in the latest three waves, 15 in wave four, 19 in wave five and 16 in wave six.

The announcement covers a total of 600 school remodelling projects.

Mr Knight said: 'We have assessed these local authorities on their ability to deliver. We are now working hard to ensure that every local authority will deliver these projects on time and on budget.'

Tim Byles, chief executive of Partnerships for Schools, said: 'We are at an exciting stage in BSF. The quality of submissions from local authorities was high, and their demonstrated 'readiness to deliver' means we are poised to move forward early in the New Year.'
