47,000 pubs seek longer opening hours

An estimated nine out of 10 pubs are seeking later opening hours when 24-hour licensing comes into force later this year, it was revealed today.
The British Beer and Pub Association said most pubs had opted to apply for closing times at midnight or 1am rather than an all-day licence.

The organisation said their estimate - which would mean about 47,000 pubs opening later - meant reports of widespread all-day drinking were an 'urban myth'.
