A1 upgrade plans get green light

Plans for a £9 million upgrade of the Carpenter's Lodge roundabout south of Stamford, Lincolnshire got the go-ahead today from roads minister Stephen Ladyman.
Work will cover replacing the existing roundabout with a new two-level junction and construction of a new link road over the A1. A new cycleway and footways will also be provided under the deal.

Mr Ladyman said: 'The scheme demonstrates the Government's continuing commitment to investing in our road network. The improvements will help to improve safety and tackle congestion on this strategically important route.'

The scheme is the latest in a series of junction improvements on the A1 between Peterborough and Blyth.
