Academic hopefuls chase £2bn

FOURTEEN contractors have been shortlisted to tender for the Partnerships for Schools national academies framework.

Those listed are: Alfred McAlpine, Amec, Balfour Beatty, Carillion, EC Harris, HBG, Interserve, Kier, Laing O'Rourke, Mace, Skanska, Taylor Wood row, Norwest Holst and Willmott Dixon.

Between six and 10 bidders will be chosen for the framework, wor th up to £2 billion.

Tender documents will go out within the next three weeks and the winners will be announced by early September.

The Partnerships for Schools agency runs the building part of the academies programme.

It is designed for local authorities that are not yet part of the £45 billion Building Schools for the Future scheme.
