Aggies weights set

AGGREGATE producers, builders'merchants and suppliers have agreed a deal to standardise the weight of bulk bagged aggregates.

The move will help retailers ensure they sell material in bulk bags at a guaranteed weight of at least 850 Kg.

In the past bulk aggregate has been sold as generic bags with no specified weight because of the difficulties in guaranteeing that load due to the effect of rain or prolonged sunshine.

Under the deal, brokered by the Builders Merchants Federation, producers have agreed to fill bags to 900 Kg with a tolerance of plus or minus 5 per cent.

This will allow a guaranteed load at a minimum of 850 Kg.
