Aggregate giant Lafarge has opened its new commercial docking wharf for construction materials in West Yorkshire. The £2.3 million development on the banks of the Aire and Calder canal will replace up to 25,000 local road journeys per year and is backed by British Waterways.

The Lafarge fleet is carrying sand and gravel from a site near the River Trent in Nottinghamshire, via the River Ouse, to the wharf in Wakefield.
