Alderley bypass gets approval

The Department for Transport has given its approval for the £51 million A34 Alderley Edge and Nether Alderley bypass.

Transport minister Rosie Winterton confirmed that the Government would fund £48 million of the 5km road, which will improve links from the area to Manchester and Manchester Airport.

Cheshire County Council meeting the remainder of the total £51.6 million cost.

Works are due to commence in August with the scheme opening in 2011.
