Amec heads rail hopefuls

AMEC is in line for a major framework deal from Network Rail worth more than £100 million to maintain the rail operator's small plant and tools across the country.

A senior industry source said the company was the frontrunner for the deal, which will last three years with a possible extension for a further two.

Under the contract, Amec would maintain and service small plant and tools across Network Rail's maintenance territories.

A Network Rail source said: 'We will make a decision shortly but we are still in negotiations with two companies, so we have signed six-month extensions to the existing contracts that will now run until September.'
