Amec Jobs are prescribed in £109m expansion of medicines centre

ABOUT 1,000 construction jobs will be created as a result of US pharmaceutical firm Pfizer's decision to spend £109 million expanding its medicines research centre in Kent.

The complex is being designed by Amec, which has also tendered for the contract.

It will be let as a construction management deal.

Work on the 50,000 sq m laboratory complex, at Sandwich, is expected to start early next year.

The deal represents one of the largest investments in the UK by a US pharmaceutical firm.
