Amec lands airport deal

CONTRACTS LIVERPOOL

AMEC has won a £15 million contract from Peel Holdings to resurface a runway at Liverpool's John Lennon Airport.

The company fought off rival interest from Mowlem, Costain, Balfour Beatty and Nuttall before securing the deal.

The scheme involves resurfacing and redeveloping the length of the runway on the airport's south airfield.

Peel Holdings acquired the Liverpool airport in 2001, renaming it John Lennon. The number of passengers passing through the airport has quadrupled.

An Official Journal notice has also gone out this week to build a warehouse and office at the site in a deal worth £3.8 million.
