Amec nabs £22m power line overhaul

Amec has clinched a £22 million contract to refurbish and upgrade overhead power lines in Nottinghamshire for National Grid Transco.
Work will cover overhauling the existing 275-kV, 44km-long line into a 400-kV twin conductor system.

Installation of new conductors, pylons, strengthened foundations, line diversions and replacing steel on the existing 125 pylons will be incorporated in the deal.

The contract is part of NGT's country-wide upgrade and improvement of the national grid over the next five years.

Work is scheduled for completion in December 2006.
