A TEAM featuring Amec has reached financial close on the largest PFI schools project in the UK.
The capital value of the work for South Lanarkshire Council is £319 million and will involve building 17 schools and refurbishing two more at a number of towns across the region, including East Kilbride and Rutherglen. The first school will be finished next August with final completion slated for mid2009. The PFI concession runs for 30 years.
News of the deal is a fillip for Amec, which last month lost £7 million in bid costs when a PFI hospital in Essex was binned.
