Amey on the up after Ferrovial takeover

FINANCE

TRADING at UK contractor Amey continues to revive under the ownership of Spanish construction outfit Ferrovial.

Amey raised profits before interest and tax by 8.5 per cent to £41 million in the first half of this year after lifting turnover by 4.5 per cent to £620 million.

Amey has a £2.9 billion order book and provides 44 per cent of the workload at the services arm of Ferrovial, where nearly half the total turnover comes from outside Spain.

Ferrovial took over airport operator BAA last month and also bought UK consultant Owen Williams, which forms part of the services operations, for £24 million.

The UK provided 18 per cent of Ferrovial's total first half turnover of £3.6 billion.
