Asbestos fines

Norfolk store Godfrey's DIY and contractor Martham Joinery were fined £20,000 and £6,500 respectively last week after pleading guilty to health and safety breaches during unlicensed removal of asbestos from the store's Great Yarmouth branch last October. Over three days Martham Joinery ripped down and broke up asbestos panels from the shop's lobby area before taking them away in the back of a car.

The shop remained trading throughout and 20 people are thought to have been exposed to asbestos dust.
