B of the Bang battle goes to court

Manchester City Council has launched a £2 million compensation case against the contractors behind the B Of The Bang sculpture, built to commemorate the 2002 Commonwealth Games.

The structure has been plagued by engineering problems and the council claims it has had to fork out almost £300,000 in repairs since its construction.

Alleging breach of contract and negligence, the council is taking action against designers Thomas Heatherwick Studio, subcontractors Packman Lucas, Flint and Neil Partnership, and Westbury Structures.

The High Court hearing will take place in November.
