Babcock clinches contract bonanza

Support services firm Babcock International has won more than £200 million of new work in its rail and Africa divisions.
Its First Engineering rail business has clinched two deals from Network Rail for high output track renewals on the East Coast Main Line and the Great Western region worth £50 million a year until 2009.

The rail subsidiary - bought from Peterhouse last year - also secured £10 million of new signalling upgrade and replacement work in Network Rail's North Western and Scottish regions.

In South Africa Babcock has been awarded a £17 million deal for the

first stages of a new power plant for Mondi, a subsidiary of Anglo

American.
